What is postal ballot, EDC, Form 12 and 12/A
Training of employees for the West Bengal 2021 Assembly elections is about to begin. An appointment letter has been received for the election duty of every employee.
What documents should be taken to the training center on the day of training for election duty?
The notes at the bottom of the employees appointment letter are as follows:

Please fill up Form 12/12A (for postal ballot / EDC) annexed herewith and submit at the Training Venue on the 1st day of training along with the duplicate copy of your appointment letter and a copy of EPIC.
Please indicate your PIN Number as given in your appointment letter on the body of Form 12/12A to help us locate you for delivery of postal ballot.Also indicate your EPIC Number on the body of Form 12/12A for verification of your Electoral roll entry.
Please fill up the blank identity card sent herewith and paste your recent colour photograph and bring it at the training venue for attestation.
Please check your mobile number, electoral data and bank account details given below. If any correction is needed, correct with red ink and submit the same at the training venue.

What is the Form - 12 or 12/A
Before going for election training, you need to know these two forms well.
An employee can pay his own vote basically through two means.
1. Postal ballots :
if the polling station where the employee is engaged is located outside his constituency.

Employees have to fill form-12 to vote through the Postal ballot.
2. EDC
(Election Duty Certificate):
If the employee is employed in the assembly where the election duty is his own assembly center.

Employees have to fill form-12(A) to vote through the EDC.
In order to vote in these two methods, the Returning Officer of the center where an employee is on duty has to apply in a specified format in advance.
