About 7 months have passed  Schools, colleges and various educational institutions are still closed during the Corona period.Although schools and colleges have been opened conditionally in many states of the country, West Bengal is an exception.

Though no decision has been taken yet on when the schools will reopen, Education Minister Partha Chatterjee has announced important steps to reopen colleges and universities on 2th November.

If all goes well, all the colleges and universities of Bengal can be opened from next December.

The government has started discussions on when the classes will be taken in the school and how it can be taken.

However, the final decision will be taken by CM Mamata Banerjee.  The government has already started all preparations.  The final decision on when and how the school will be opened will be taken after depaboli.


"We don't just have to reopen the school, we have to run the school. We will discuss whether the students and teachers can be brought to the school in groups or not." 

 Comment by Education Minister Partha Chatterjee.


7th November Hon'ble Chief Minister said in the context of school closure, 'Now the schools have holidays till December. See you later Let's see the situation first. Now, schools have holidays until the first week of December. The decision will be made based on the situation'.

According to the Centre's guidelines(Unlock 5.0), schools in the states and union territories may be reopened in stages after October 15. In that case, the administration will decide after talking to the educational institutions. The guidelines also state-


  • In schools where online classes are available, students may not come to school if they want to.

  • Students can come to school with the written permission of their parents.

  • The state and union territory administrations will make corona precautionary rules for schools.

  • Educational institutions have to abide by the health regulations issued by the state.

  • The decision to open colleges and other educational institutions will be taken by the state higher education department.


Unlock 5.0


The central government did not come up with Unlock 6, the Unlock 5 guideline will remain in force till the end of November.


As per the rules, the new unlock guidelines were supposed to come at the end of October. But the central government did not take that step. According to the Home Ministry, no new relaxation will be announced. The rules that exist at the moment will remain in force until November 30.

______________New Update_______ Intra and inter District Transfer list The first list of all the primary teachers who have applied for transfer to The Commissioner of School Education in Bikash Bhavan since last December, 2021 has been published. The instructions in this list are as follows: "The Undersigned is directed to inform that the School Education Department in principle has no objection to the inter/intra district transfer of the Primary School Teachers as included in the attached list(s). The concerned authorities are hereby requested to take necessary action accordingly. In case of any discrepancy, the Chairpersons of the District Primary School Council and the District Inspectors of Schools (Primary Education) shall bring it to the notice of the School Education Department. Merit list of SSC SLST 9-10 and 11-12

Merit list of SSC SLST 9-10 The School Service Commission (SSC) has published the revised merit list for the appointment of SLST 9-10 teachers on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.  The merit list was released on the Commission's website on Thursday evening.  The High Court had set a deadline of July 15 for the publication of this merit list.  The list has been published following that instruction.  Incidentally, in 2018, the process of recruitment of SLST IX-X teachers started.  About 11,800 vacancies were filled in seven counselling sessions.  However, the merit list published by the commission at that time did not include the name, ethnic identity and rank of the candidate.  Some of the candidates on the waiting list had filed a case in the Calcutta High Court challenging that.  Following the case, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay directed the SSC to publish the merit list with names and numbers.   School Hol Login for Uniform SCMS on Banglar Shiksha Portal In the School Hol login, there would be 'Uniform SCMS' menu at the left menu panel clicking upon which following type of dashboard would appear. Hol in respect of Upper Primary / Secondary / Higher Secondary Schools has the responsibility to issue work orders in favour of concerned SHG and update the status of the same in the online system. Click on the 'Work Order Issued' tab. List of all tagged SHGs would be available therein.  Then click on 'Submit' button in respect of the concerned SHG for which work order has been issued to update the status as 'Yes'. Following type of screen would appear in this regard. Maternity Leave for West Bengal Primary and High School Teacher

In this blog, I have discussed Maternity Leave.  This leave is applicable to female teachers of primary and secondary schools, non-teaching female staff.  However, there are separate notifications for female teachers or non-teaching female staff of primary, secondary and higher secondary schools.  Through the Latest Notification of Maternity Leave, Maternity Leave of female employees of various departments has been increased to 180 days.
